Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

 "Another Great Sony Product" 2009-11-04
By JMT (Portland, OR)
This TV is well worth the money, great picture whether watching Comcast HD through the cable box, or over the air also. Has TV Guide channel built in, that's a plus. Gaming, it's again, a great picture and sound. Can't say I wouldn't buy this one in a heartbeat again. I have this Lcd HDTV hooked to a Motorola HD DVR a 3425 series from Comcast, a Sony surround sound system, and a PS3 for Blu Ray movies and gaming.

All around a good TV for a fair price I would say. Would have loved to get a LED TV, but they are going for $2,500 in this size, that's still a little steep for me.

Hope my review helped.

"Great TV overall. Excellent PQ, sound a little lacking." 2009-11-03
By W. Gee
Got this TV for a week and overall very satisfied with purchase. PQ is excellent with many settings available. Calibration was found through forums. Watched several HD sporting events over the past weekend and didn't notice too much pixelations and blurring effects. 120Hz is definitely better than my year old Samsung 1080P 60Hz.

Widgets were cool and fun but only a nice to have, not a must. Probably should incorporate full website content, can only watch content available to the widget. Youtube is the only fully functional channel (exactly like website). Like I said, a cool thing to play with.

By comparison to other LCDs and Plasmas, I can say for sure that Panny plasma is still the best for PQ, natural coloration, least amount of pixelation and blurring. On the bad side of plasma, heavy and can only stand upright. My 2 year old 720P Panny still beats this set but I needed a lighter set to mount on the bedroom wall and just couldn't beat Amazon's price and package deal(included a Blu Ray Home Theater System).

Pros:

Excellent Picture Quality

Cool Widgets

Many changeable settings for fine tuning

120Hz

Cons:

Sound quality is a little muffled (speakers over & under chassis)

I haven't compared this to the XBR or Z (10-bit) panels, but those are substantially more and from an older generation XBR6 this panel (8-bit) is definitely better than that one.

"Great TV for your money!!!" 2009-11-02
By N. Zavala
The SONY BRAVIA 40W5100 is a great HDTV which has good picture quality, great features, and a nice appearance. The only con about this TV is the sound quality, but that can be fixed with a good Surround Sound System. Overall this TV is a great value for your buck.

 "always had a sony" 2009-10-27
By Jeffrey Lehmann (wisconsin)
I've always had a SONY in the house. This set is being used as our main TV. The picture is sharp and bright. I also purchased an all in one sony home theater audio system, which really helps with the ordinary stereo sound the tv produces on it's own. I will always own a SONY
